Jean-Sébastien Brière is an attorney and Canadian Patent Agent with more than twenty-five years of experience in intellectual property law. He advises innovative companies, technology businesses, research organizations, and entrepreneurs on the acquisition, protection, commercialization, and strategic management of intellectual property assets.

Called to the bars of Quebec, Ontario, and New York State, member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London) and arbitrator/mediator at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center, Jean-Sébastien brings an international perspective to his practice. He assists clients in developing global patent, trademark, and innovation strategies while aligning intellectual property protection with broader business objectives.

 

Throughout his career, Jean-Sébastien has practised with leading intellectual property firms and has advised organizations ranging from emerging technology ventures to multinational corporations. His work includes intellectual property litigation, the development and management of intellectual property portfolios, patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions, and transactions involving intellectual property assets.

Jean-Sébastien holds a graduate diploma in North American Common Law from Université de Montréal and an LL.B. from Université Laval. He has taught intellectual property law at Université de Sherbrooke and Université Laval for several years.

Building on these diverse professional experiences, Jean-Sébastien assists numerous entrepreneurs in developing and leveraging intellectual property portfolios. He has long served as an "IP coach" for various technology business incubators and accelerators.
